Front Foot*Back Beat

Front Foot*Back Beat is a community performance project bringing together people from different backgrounds and locations over several months to create an original dance work in the Fish Creek Memorial Hall. As with Samara's previous community dance projects, Front Foot*Back Beat combined the talents of trained and untrained dancers, and paired them with the professional artistic skills of local designers and technicians.

The Front Foot*Back Beat artistic process encourages and promotes strong social connections, movement and performance development, confidence building, and the creation of an original dance work that truly reflects all of the participants involved. For many, this supportive and welcoming environment that created opportunity for rigorous movement exploration and creative storytelling was incredibly enriching, and life affirming.

The creative team assisting Samara with the delivery of the Front Foot*Back Beat project include composer and sound designer Michael Shirrefs, costume designer Mayumi McPhee, technical stage manager Mark Harrison, lighting operator Will Mccarthy, graphic designer Jessica Greaves, photographer Lauren Murphy, and film-maker Joel Sharpe.

Samara's projects have been utterly valuable for me to exercise my dance creativity in a community setting. I have developed new networks of dance lovers as a result of these projects and I have become more involved as a community member.
